All songs, words and music, by Bryan Schnabel.

And You Want To Come Down

[verse 1]
I know you know the way I say,
I need the sunshine that you feed.
And you say that you want to come down.

You know I know you say,
You say you see – it’s all in front of me.
And you say that you want to come down.

Your pedestal’s so high,
So high, so high, like the sparkle in my eye.
And you say that you want to come down.

[bridge]
You found me in the darkest part of my night.
Know that I start the rain.

And you know all about the darkness of night.
Know that I start the rain.

You say that our stars are all aligned.
And now our happiness can shine.

[verse 2]
Your pedestal’s so high,
So high, so high, like the sparkle in my eye.
And you say that you want to come down.

I know you know the way I say,
I need the sunshine that you feed.
And you say that you want to come down.

[bridge]
You found me in the darkest part of my night.
Know that I start the rain.

And you know all about the darkness of night.
Know that I start the rain.

You say that our stars are all aligned.
And now our happiness can shine.

About You

[verse 1]
My thoughts are monophonic
Ideas so embryonic
And it’s zooming in and out of time

[verse 2]
My memories are episodic
These lucid dreams, vivid and melodic
I forgot to stay in line

[chorus]
I’m unwanted
I’m a sideshow
I’m mind blow
And it’s haunting

[verse 3]
Shallow thoughts are hollow seasons
Scattered dreams of borrowed demons
And like embers – my memories – fade away

[chorus]
I’m unwanted
I’m a sideshow
I’m mind blow
And it’s haunting

My Debutante

[verse 1]
My Debutante - won’t want - to rest
My Debutante - won’t want - to rest

[bridge 1]
Persistent badgering and wishes for success
My hackles blow in winds of cold distress

[verse 2]
My Debutante - might want - the best
My Debutante - just wants - the best

[bridge 2]
Careful to control what can and cannot be
Our harried thoughts might shift from sun to sea

[chorus 1]
Prodigious memory comes tumbling to the ground
The wisdom isn’t safe and isn’t sound
And when her mind explodes from all the things she’s found
Where shall I stand - when all my walls - fall down?

[verse 3]
My Debutante – of course – is me
Oh yes for sure – she’s only me

[bridge 3]
And though our plan - still dwells in make believe
They call it ill advised and ill conceived

[bridge 4]
Babbled wisdom in grand hyperbole
It felt pretty good to set her free

[chorus 2]
But now she’s gone - and her silence fills my head
My madness echoes all the things she said
With my Debutante - finally safe and sound
Where shall I stand - while all my walls - fall down?

War Paint

Had a hero
Starting in the early spring

Filled my mind up
Trying to learn everything

Time’s a big one
And it keeps us on the ground

Plans in focus
Plans for keeping safe and sound

{I had a hero}
{I had a hero}

He liked to tell me
That I just didn’t think

But I knew women
Who would gladly buy me drinks

That was twilight
I was learning about love

That was our life
Learning how to rise above

{I had a hero}
{I had a hero}

Frightful creatures
Taught me how to find a fight

She was my teacher
Didn’t care bout wrong or right

I sold my body
While we watched the northern lights

She taught me lessons
By electric candle light

-------------

Warmth of summer
Feel the wavelengths in the air

Feel loose poetry
Feel the wind blow back your hair

Found my calling
Found a way to make it sing

Found my answers
And the key to everything

Forgetful girlfriends
They remind us of our dreams

They love their boyfriends
Life’s as happy as it seems

I heard warnings
In the shortness of the days

Songs of old men
How they sound so far away

{I had a hero}

Sometimes a big change
Is the kind we need the most

Something magical
In the gentle western coast

Feel the breezes
Autumn nipping at my side

Feels so easy
Like the cadence of your stride

Now I wonder
If I ever left at all

Now they ponder
In the rise and in the fall

Equilibrium
If I want to get it right

To do the right thing
I will try with all my might

{I had a hero}
{I had a hero}
{I had a hero}

Heard the whippoorwill
As the lightness turned to dark

Faded into
Familiar songs of the lark

And now forever
In the ways of wrong and right

I do the right thing
Gives me comfort in the night

{I had a hero}
{I had a hero}

Now in winter
He’s the echo in the breeze

He’s the laser
He’s the way I feel at ease

Here by accident
Come the spoils of the meek

This fight’s over
Wipe the war paint from my cheek

{I had a hero}
{I had a hero}
{I had a hero}
{I had a hero}

Willow

[verse 1]
We heard the whispers through the night
We watched it form in warm moonlight
I watched the dream come down on me
I felt all it said to me

[chorus]
There’s a new song in the willow
In the quiet voice of the whippoorwill
Sometimes change is not for the better
At least the part of the change we see

[verse 2]
We felt the driving through the night
We watched its form in warm moonlight
I felt the dream come down to me
I stayed while it sang to me

[chorus 2]
There’s a new song in the willow
And it sounds like it’s sung by angels
Sometimes change is change for the better
Sometimes it's the part we see

[bridge]
And then it came to me
I know what I wanted it to be
I felt light come down
I felt all it sang
There’s a new song in the willow
And it sounds like it’s sung from my soul
Sometimes change will change us
Sometimes change won't come

Cafe Wall Illusion

[verse 1]
We watch it all - turn pitch black
Don’t know just if we get it back
It fell to absolute zero
Oh my, can’t find my new hero

Goodbye, Did you try, I get by
Goodbye, Did you try your Alibi
Goodbye, Did you try, I get by
Goodbye, Did you try your Alibi

[chorus]
Spinning dancers cast confusion
Shall we jump to their conclusion?
Build a café wall illusion
Will you pardon the intrusion?
It’s contentious - And self-righteous
Spreading blindness – Try to bind us

[verse 2]
At first they laughed “Tee Hee Hee”
Could we ever – never see?
He cast a spell – the little clown
Pitch black attack – hammered down

Goodbye, Did you try, I get by
Goodbye, Did you try your Alibi
Goodbye, Did you try, I get by
Goodbye, Did you try your Alibi

[chorus]
Spinning dancers cast confusion
Shall we jump to their conclusion?
Build a café wall illusion
Will you pardon the intrusion?
It’s contentious - And self-righteous
Spreading blindness – Try to bind us

[verse 3]
And just before we go to sleep
We pray to God about our soul
If it’s pitch black when we should wake
We pray the lord our soul to take

Goodbye, Did you try, I get by
Goodbye, Did you try your Alibi
Goodbye, Did you try, I get by
Goodbye, Did you try your Alibi

[chorus]
Spinning dancers make confusion
Shall we jump to their conclusion?
Build a café wall illusion
Will you pardon the intrusion?
It’s contentious - And self-righteous
Spreading blindness – Try to bind us

Taken Time, Pt. 1

[intro]
Taken Time – On My Mind
Taken Time – On My Mind
On my Mind – Taken Time
Taken Time – On My Mind

[verse 1]
A little bit, isn’t always better than none
I hurt my head nearly an hour ago – maybe it was more like a week?
Maybe thoughts are thunder

[verse 2]
Here I am thinkin’ ‘bout someone else
Think I might be getting happy now
Think I might be out of my mind
Think I might be out of my mind

Immortality

[verse 1]
Although you were not there, there’s truth in what we see
It gave me such a scare, I felt you there with me

I've heard of what this means - I've seen it in your dreams
I'm not ready for this, your metamorphosis

[chorus]
How long - do we
Mean to be content?

(murky)
How long - do we
Mean to be content?

[verse 2]
You might have seen them too, they gathered in the years
Perhaps they're not for you – the balance of my fears

Would it scare you to see – apparitions of me?
And I have seen them too – but what I’ve seen is you

[chorus]
How long - do we
Mean to be content?

(murky)
How long - do we
Mean to be content?

Kalliope

Where can you be Kalliope?

The poetry used to come to me as the rain falls.
And I could fill as many cups with rain as the storm was long.

For the first time in my life I don't have the words
For the first time in my life I don't have the words

And the notes used to rush to me as I conjured them.
And I could weave them into chords and melodies like tapestry.

But now the notes are reluctant and stay away from me.

Sisterhood of goddesses your number set at nine;
Far away Kalliope, another place another time
Do I see the smoke from her fire rising effortlessly?
Do I think she's somewhere, waiting patiently?

For the first time in my life I don't have the words
For the first time in my life I don't have the words

Innocence

[verse 1]
From the Little boy lost
We won’t hear a sound
Informed by the experience
Of the little boy found

The broken heavy chain
From vanity unbound
We used to be harmless
I thought we were harmless

[chorus 1]
But innocence
Has departed us each
I have no right to blame just you
I no longer blame you

[verse 2]
I’m no longer that boy
And you’re not that girl
Who searched for experience
In a beautiful world

When you began to stray
I never stopped trying
I thought we were harmless
We used to be harmless

[chorus 2]
But innocence
Has departed us each
I have no right to blame just you
I no longer blame you

((bridge))

[verse 3]
Must be our human soul
That causes human weakness
I thought we were harmless
We used to be harmless

[chorus 3]
But innocence
Has departed us each
I have no right to blame just you
I no longer blame you

Ghost Train

[verse 1]
Dreams about the ghost train
Seem so far away

Dreams I can’t remember
Of days I can’t forget

[verse 2]
Riding on the ghost train
You’re so far away

Separation haunts me now
In words that I regret

[chorus]
And all of dreams in the world won’t come back to find me here
And all of dreams in the world won’t come back to find me here
When the dreamers visit me - they’re oh so real
When the dreamers visit me - they’re oh so real

[verse 3]
Riding on the ghost train
Seems so far away

You told me parables
But I don’t know if they’re real

[verse 4]
When I find the ghost train
My debt will be repaid

The waiting is bearable
In dreams that seem so real

[chorus]
And all of dreams in the world won’t come back to find me here
And all of dreams in the world won’t come back to find me here
When the dreamers visit me - they’re oh so real
When the dreamers visit me - they’re oh so real

Taken Time, Pt. 2

[obscured pre-intro-fade-in]
{I remember how you said what
Sometimes words felt like a brick
Hanging on the words of the dead
Maybe the bricks are my head}

[verse]
Taken Time – On My Mind
Taken Time – On My Mind
On my Mind – Taken Time
Taken Time – On My Mind

[obscured bridge]
{Here I am – thinking about something else
And with my whiskers turning gray
Have I said all I have to say?
Maybe I’m just blown away?}

[reprise]
Taken Time – On My Mind
Taken Time – On My Mind
On my Mind – Taken Time
Taken Time – On My Mind
